As stated by a previous reviewer, it’s very gritty & tangible. The author has a gift of writing characters so real that you feel like you are in the room with them on each page. The female lead is not some innocent swan and the male lead is not a billionaire with a control fetish; they are average people with their own severe issues and Gabriel Ricard holds them both up to task. If you want a feel-good fantasy, look somewhere else; if you want something more real and true to life, then pick up this book.Product details

Bondage Night Gabriel Ricard 9780997949131 Books Reviews
An electric, visceral and razor blade carved dose of human depravity. Ricard is like Warren Zevon...a moralist in cynic's clothing. Strong, memorable and commanding debut from a versatile dynamo of the underground and small press scene. Ricard knows his stuff and he pulls the strings of disease in prose that bites, chews and swallows you whole. It knocked the pants off of me--it's a mean, badass read that left me tied up in knots.
Some things you see coming, some you don’t . It’s hard to say if anyone is better off or not in the end. The text is visceral and gritty and rampageous, everything you’d come to expect once you’ve been introduced to these characters and all the rides that you will take as a reader, both up and down.
Maybe it's a 16 car pileup, but it plays out masterfully. It's just understandable - maybe even inevitable. Maybe we truly are doomed to go through these self-destructive actions, and they can only truly be seen from outside.
Visceral, ugly, and painfully tangible. Ricard's background in underground, counter-culture poetry shows in this modern love (?) story. His word-crafting shines throughout and his ability to put into sharp relief the world around us and the lives we lead is like walking off a punch. Bitingly honest in the way Hemingway and Kerouac were for their generations, this is an honest look at what life can (and often is) like in the new millennium.
"Bondage Night shows us the vicious climax of a chaotic, intense, compulsory love affair between two unhappy, unrealistic people."
Unhappy and unrealistic? Can I say that is what life is for you!? )
We are all dysfunctional. We are not normal. We are still learning, if we listen.
Well, after a while, every "real" person struggles with their own mood.
A lot of questions fill the air as a lot of rules and conditions.
Some of the questions will never get answered but maybe, the most important one is already there, though they are not ready to see it yet.
A fight to control every emotion, to understand first, themselves, then, each other.
A way to save what they now miss and can't seem to reach.
The way they fell for each other, the first touch, the first everything.
But yeah playing the same game can be exhausting, watch carefully every movement, every moment, every need.
Find happiness together can be very hard, but at least they both agreed on something.
Perhaps they were thinking too much about it, about well, everything...
The environment has noisy, vicious and broken.
If they find a natural way to relax, probably they would see.
But like the author wrote, there is no question that when they finally see,
neither one of them ever going to be the same again.
That's acceptance and compromise.
I've enjoyed reading this story.
I don't read many books, so I'm not sure what to say to people who do. It's good stuff. I don't finish reading many books, but I finished reading this one, and that's saying something.
